Weekly Park Days

See our Meetup pages for scheduled park days.

We organize a weekly Sunday park day at Lake Merritt for recreation, relaxation, enjoyment, and socializing. All ages are welcome. We set up a slack line (as seen in the pictures) to balance on and walk across for fun and for getting out of one’s head and back into the body. The park is usually filled with people enjoying themselves, and often people walking by join in the fun and try out the slack line or practice their previously-acquired abilities. We also bring a frisbee to play with, balls to juggle, and other toys. And we engage in other activities such as yoga, stretching, hand stands, flipping, or simply lying down. There’s almost always a drumming circle playing in the background, adding to the upbeat atmosphere.

One tradition that’s common in some religions is to have a day of rest, called a sabbath, for physical and spiritual rejuvenation. This weekly gathering partly is inspired by these traditions.
